Cassius Stuart – B.D.M. Leader

Former Minister of Parliament and ex-P.L.P representative for the constituency of Elizabeth Estates “resigned” last week leaving the constituents without a voice and a representative in the House of Assembly. The honorable Malcolm Adderley (and Brutus was an honourable man) has consequently forced a bi-election in that constituency and we have been pummeled head first back into 2007. Election fever.

A fresh wind is blowing through Elizabeth as the Progressive Liberal Party rallies up the troops to defend its stronghold, and the Free National Movement try to ignite the fire as they should be ready, willing and able to claim the vacant seat. The Bahamas has always been predominately a two-party country, you are either P.L.P or F.N.M. Let’s not forget the occasional Independent contender that sat on the throne of Bamboo Town for years, Mr. Tennyson Wells.

The question therefore is, are Bahamians ready for the change that they so often cry for? If indeed they are The Bahamas Democratic Movement intends to offer a candidate in the upcoming bi-election due sometime in February and all interested Bahamians are invited to cross the threshold.

We had the pleasure of momentarily speaking with the B.D.M’s candidate for bi-election who happens to be the leader of the BDM, Mr. Cassius Stuart about the up-coming elections.

S.M.: Why does the BDM feel fit to run an individual in the Elizabeth constituency?

Cassius Stuart: We believe that the time for change is now. The country is hurting and crying for a new direction. Crime is the highest its ever been in our history, unemployment the highest its ever been. The National debt the highest its ever been. Education is not getting any better and country doesn’t have any direction.

S.M.: Elizabeth is but one seat. How would one voice be able to mandate change in the house why not wait until general election in …20…?

C.S: First we are a political party and a political party must be ready at all times to to offer themselves if they believe they can do a better job than the opposite side.

S.M.: O.K..What are your plans for the consituency of Elizabeth. What are the B.D.M’s plans?

C.S: Well Elizabeth is a part of the Bahamas as a whole. It is almost impossible to segment a constituency. All the problems that face the nation, affects Elizabeth as well as every other constituency. The country is one indivisible whole, if one fails all fails. So it is important for us to tackle Crime, Education, National debt, Welfare because all of these effect Elizabeth.

S.M: How familiar are you with the constituency?

C.S.: I am getting very familiar..It is a new Constituency for me but our party had a presence from the last election. We have been working and our support has been growing.

S.M.: Great…anything you want those reading to know about you and your party.

C.S.: Thats it for now..brain shutting down. just came in from campaigning in the cold. For more information log on to our website. www.bdmparty.com

The Bahamas is barely willingly to look past the two-group Junkanoo system, [Saxon or Valley] do you think they are willing to step out of bounds and place their X outside of the blue and red? Good luck to those unafraid to tackle the politic giants. David did defeat Goliath. America does have a black President. I applaud you. Who wants to buy my vote? That is all.
