Kerry Washington looks fierce for the Decemeber issue of Elle magazine dubbed ‘The Women in Hollywood’ issue.
The actress, who plays Olivia Pope on ABC’s hit show Scandal, dishes on her successful role on the ABC drama, her childhood, the Quentin Tarantino-directed movie Django Unchained and much more.
For her flawless full spread, Kerry dons an array of looks by Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Marc Jacobs.
On attending on all-girls high school:
“My girlfriends from high school are the smartest and strongest women I know. I became a woman around them, and I think that has something to do with the sort of roles I take on. I’ve always made it a choice to play characters that are complicated.”
On playing Olivia Pope:
“Olivia deals with a negotiation of power that I think is unique to the modern woman. She’s phenomenally successful, able to control her world and make things happen with clarity and force in her professional life.”
On her role in her upcoming film “Django Unchained,” directed by Quentin Tarantino:
“Look, I can see how it’s not particularly feminist to play the princess in the tower, waiting to be saved. But as a black woman- we’ve never been afforded that luxury. There was no man coming to save you; it wasn’t part of the story. In some ways, this telling is a statement of that empowerment.”
