MAJOR Review: Maroon 5 ‘Overexposed’
It took five years before Maroon 5 released their sophomore album, another three years between their sophomore and third and now the five man band is here again with their fourth studio album, ‘Overexposed,’ in two years. When the group released the Pop/Rock “Moves like Jagger” featuring Christina Aguilera, last year, it soon became their best selling hit, thus far. With that formula the execs and band wasted no time to create their most Pop album to date.
Overexposed is not your typical Maroon 5 album. The sound this go around is three quarters “made-for-radio” and one quarter ‘Songs About Jane.’ The twelve track album has already spawned the hit “Payphone” which features Wiz Khalifa. It won’t be long before the next single, “One More Night,” lights up the charts with its catchy tropical infused beat. There is an overall catchiness to the songs on the album but in “Daylight” there is a nice climactic middle 8 to match its attractive melody.
A mix of electro, pianos, percussion instruments, guitars… all under Pop form make up this album. However, the last track of the album titled “Beautiful Goodbye” is the closest thing to the signature Alternative sound of Maroon 5 on the album. It’s earthy and organic sound is a pleasant taste of more of what the band puts out.
The guys of Maroon 5 tasted mainstream success again last year and because of that Overexposed is the album it is today: an enjoyable album with songs that will get stuck in your head but not to be taken as seriously as their past work.
‘Overexposed’ is set to be released June 26! Available at iTunes!
