Mariah Carey Officially Joins ‘American Idol’…

After weeks of rumors, it’s officially been announced that Mariah Carey and her made for TV personality has joined the judges table for season twelve of American Idol.

The powerhouse songstress is expected to earn up to $17 million for her first season on the hit show.

FOX released a statement saying,

“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol,” said Carey. I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”

“It’s the biggest recording artist than any of these [singing competition] shows have ever had,” said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly on Monday. “It’s an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded only hours ago. Not being the only game in town we need to keep things fresh.”

Although executive productive Simon Fuller was hoping for Jennifer Lopez to have a change of heart, he’s excited for the new addition.

“We are proud to have one of the world’s greatest-ever female singers join our show. Mariah defines the word ‘Idol’ and will inspire every singer that has the honor of performing in front of her.”

We’re happy for Mariah and we expect her to don floor length gowns and shimmery mini-dresses every week but we’re also hoping this doesn’t push back the release of her forthcoming album.
