Mutiny On The 777 Plane?! Rihanna’s Tour Gone Haywire?!

When Rihanna’s #777 was announced I thought it was probably the most brilliant idea ever.  The chance to go behind the scenes on tour with one of the world’s biggest pop stars ever.  The opportunity to visit seven countries in seven days…mind blowing…

But then I also thought….that must be pretty exhausting….and monotonous to hear the same songs, same routine for seven days in a row….traveling with 200 plus people.

Rihanna’s intentions were great but it seems like she’s got a pack of wolves on her hands.   What happens when you invite 150 press members from around the world on your plane but they’ve only seen you once? It’s like waving a bloody rag at a shark and expecting it not to lose it’s cool.

The tour is nearing it’s completion; the #777 has touched down in New Mexico to Toronto to Stockholm to Berlin and Paris and will be done after it’s London and New York’s visit, but has this promotional stint worked out in Rihanna’s favor or has it cost her more than it’s worth?

The press are not happy.  With the exception of the first day it’s been jail for them…sitting ducks as they work on Ri’s time.  The reviews have not been favourable, and those that are, they don’t change much as it’s the same show day after day.  Wasn’t that the purpose of a traveling press corps, positive press?

Other than the unhappy press, Rihanna is also set to feel lighter pockets as she’s been hit with excessive charges for being late for takeoff.  Being late for a private jet is unlike being late for a Delta 777 jet!  Ri’s plane has been delayed for hours at a time and that bill adds up.

According to The Sun Ri’s footing a bill of  fines of almost £200,000 for late airport departures.  One source with knowledge of the situation told the paper:

“Rihanna delays going on stage, which throws out the whole schedule.

It’s a reaction to the fact that every second of her time is accounted for by organisers. She likes to be in control.

Her team have been making frantic calls throughout the night to the airports.

Every hour that goes by she has to pay for flight clearance on runways and also incurs costs of the private airport teams, customs, baggage handlers and security. The tour will end up costing her a fortune.”
