Senator Responds To Lil Wayne – “If You Don’t Like New York, You Don’t Have To Come To New York!”
What did the greatest city on earth ever do to you sir?!
Oh…yea you managed to get arrested for illegally carrying a gun and then got sent to Rikers Island….but hey…you came out on top with a number one album afterwards…it all evens out.
Recently while speaking to MTV in Las Vegas about Nicki Minaj’s Pepsi concert in New York City, Lil Wayne managed to piss of the residents of the 5 boroughs when he stated on record that he didn’t have much love for the popular city.
Hip-hop was birthed in the 60′/70′s in the city of New York and some of the greatest musicians and artists hail from the proud city.
As an artist…I don’t see how alienating an entire State is going to benefit you.
New York State Senator Malcolm Smith caught wind of Wayne’s comments about the Big Apple and held a press conference in Times Square where he called upon the ‘Lollipop’ rapper to apologize to the great city!
“Very simple, if you don’t like New York, you don’t have to come to New York, you don’t have to sell your products here and, perhaps, we won’t come to your concerts. I can tell you as someone who’s raised my family here, I’ve taken strong exception to the words, ‘I don’t like New York.’ I love this city. I was born and raised in this city.”
The Hollis, Queens resident continued to say that Lil Wayne’s comments not only insulted the city but it’s great artists.
“He should also know, anecdotally or not, he’s also insulted the memory of Frank Sinatra and he’s also insulted Jay Z, Both have made endearing songs about New York.”
Mr. Smith described Mr. Wayne’s remarks as an affront to two New Yorkers in particular.
