Shoegasm: Step Out In Style For Independence The Bahamian Way!

Jul 05, 2012 No Comments by

Bahamian Independence is less than a week away, and as the independence celebrations unravel, proud Bahamians throughout the Bahama Islands and around the world will step out in black, gold, and aquamarine, boasting their patriotism in the most creative and fashionable ways.

While we know Bahamians are already some of the most stylish people on the planet,  I’ve come up with some simple shoe tips for those of you who either haven’t gotten your independence gear together as yet, or are simply not sure of the direction you wish to go.  In my search I found that local Bahamian stores are already supplied with some of the latest trends, just in time for the 39th Year of Independence of the best littlest country in the world.

Although you may not always find perfect matches to the aquamarine & gold colors of the Bahamian national flag, you can substitute mustard (not light yellow) for gold, and teal for aquamarine (not light blue or royal blue).

In 2011 we saw the return of ‘The Chunky Heel’.  This retro classic continues to be a hit in Summer 2012, with the hottest colors and the coolest prints. Chunky heeled shoes are perfect paired with summer dresses and skirts, short shorts and skinny jeans.

Over the years we’ve seen the wedge heels evolve from simple classics to high fashion.  This very versatile style can also be worn with skirts, shorts, dresses and skinny jeans.

‘The Stiletto’ is a staple in any shoe store because they can be dressed up or down with ease. This shoe is great with just about any and every outfit you may create for the holiday.

If your want a more casual or relaxed look you can opt for flats.

‘Spiked Pointed Flat’,  this style can be worn with any variety of casual clothing, as long as you keep it simple. No excessive prints, frills or anything of the sort. You don’t want the clothing competing with the shoe.

‘Loafers’  is yet another classic that has been stylized for the modern “fashionista”. They go very well with shorts, but my personal favorite is loafers worn with cigarette jeans.

‘Pointed Flats’ are a style that can be worn both as a ‘basic casual’ or a ‘dressy casual’. These are perfect for the ladies on their feet everyday at work.  This shoe can be worn with almost everything (dresses, jeans, shorts, slacks etc.)

The good news is that all of these shoes were found in shoes stores in the Bahamas and on popular shoe sites like Aldo and Steve Madden and can be worn throughout the year.  The mustard shoes can be worn again in autumn, and the teal can be saved for the winter.  Ladies we want you to be both comfortable and stylish this holiday.

Happy Independence Bahamas!
