“Slave Descendants Make Better Athletes.” – Michael Johnson

With the 2012 London Olympic Games right around the block, Olympic fever has reached intense levels.

Former four time gold Olympic medalist, the god of the track, Michael Johnson recently gave an interview to The Daily Mail where he gave his reasoning at why the thinks black athletes will dominate in the upcoming Olympiads.

Johnson stated that the answer was plain and simple.  He believes that black athletes have a ‘superior gene’ one which we can attribute to our slavery days.

‘Over the last few years, athletes of Afro- Caribbean and Afro-American descent have dominated athletics finals. It’s a fact that hasn’t been discussed openly before. It’s a taboo subject in the States but it is what it is. Why shouldn’t we discuss it?

It is currently being researched to see how much of a factor being descended from slaves contributes to athletic ability. All my life  I believed I became an athlete through my own determination, but it’s impossible to think that being descended from slaves hasn’t left an imprint through the generations. Difficult as it was to hear, slavery has benefited descendants like me – I believe there is a superior  athletic gene in us.’

Before sitting down for the interview, Johnson recently traced his roots for a recent documentary, Michael Johnson: Survival Of The Fastest, which confirmed he is of West African descent.

I honestly do agree with Johnson’s beliefs.  Just look around us. Basketball, football, track, baseball, black athletes have continously dominated.
