Sail the seven season with some pirate bootie!
Unique and bright pieces are definitely in this season and we’ve got just the right designer to have you looking “pirate chic”.
Joi French always had the vision of being her own boss. After taking time to figure out how she was going to make this happen, she decided to launch an accessories line. In January of 2010, Pirate Romance was established.
We like pairing a Pirate Romance piece with our daily outfit because it adds boldness and a bit of individuality to it.
Check out our interview with the creator, Joi French and find out what’s in store for this growing brand, Pirate Romance, in the near future.
Joi: I’ve always wanted to start my own brand and I decided to start with accessories and then branch out.
Vanessa: What is the inspiration behind Pirate Romance?
Joi: The inspiration behind my line is many things. First I wanted to create limited edition pieces at affordable price points. My current spring & summer collection is a mix of Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol, and other various pop art references. The upcoming autumn & winter collection was inspired by David Bowie and Joni Mitchell in their 70′s period. I experiemented with various stones and metals.
Vanessa: What is the price range?
Joi: All pieces are made in quatities of 100 or less and are all under $250. Usually exclusivity is not synonymous with affordability and I desired to bring the two together.
Vanessa: Where can your jewelry be purchased?
Joi: My jewelry can be found in various boutiques in NY, LA, and ATL and on my own online store www.pirateromance.bigcartel.com. I have have an exclusive piece in Patricia Field’s flagship store and Pirate Romance is also on Karmaloop.
Vanessa: What’s next for your brand?
Joi: Coming up for the brand is expansion! Along with the A/W 11/12 jewelry collection I am also launching a women’s line entitiled MANNEKIN (pronounced mannequin) and I have a men’s collection, Crimes Against Thugs, launching June 1st!
