Taylor Swift Makes History: Sells 1.2 Million Copies Of ‘Red’

Oct 31, 2012 No Comments by

In a previous post we mentioned how Country/Pop star Taylor Swift was due to sell above one million copies of her fourth LP, Red. Well, the final numbers are in and Taylor Swift is an official force within the industry.

Taylor Swift moved a whopping 1.208 million copies of her album in its first week of release. Swift made history, becoming the first female performer to have two consecutive albums move more than a million copies in one week. This also marks the best sales week in a decade for the music industry. Swift trails Eminem’s 2002 LP, The Eminem Show, which sold 1.322 million copies within its first week.

Paired with the fact that the album sold on decent material and star power rather than tabloid trickery, we commend Taylor Swift & Co. for the accomplishment. Call Rihanna the queen of the singles but when it comes to album sales, Taylor Swift is THAT lady.
