Andrej Ciesielski, an 18-year-old German tourist became a household name last week after he scaled the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders Of The Ancient World. While this act lands on my list of “What Not To Do While Traveling”, Andrej was able to capture some pretty amazing pictures and video of the experience.
The teen, who has now received a lifetime ban from Egypt, took approximately 8 minutes to climb to the top of the 455-foot pyramid by foot, and 20 minutes to descend.
The Pyramids of Giza, located in Egypt were constructed 4,500 years ago and is believed to have been built as a tomb for Khufu, the Fourth Dynasty ancient Egyptian pharaoh.
While this is a forbidden and extremely dangerous practice, this is not the first time a tourist has climbed the Great Pyramid of Giza. In 2013, Russian photographers Vadim Makhorov and Vitaliy Raskalov hid from guards for hours and waited until after hours to climb and photograph the pyramids.
