You found your dream guy/gal. Fell in love, then after a few months, you plan a suprise trip to Europe and then you suprise your s.o. with your travel plans. They immediately inform you that they have never liked the idea of traveling the world and isn’t interested in going to Europe.
What do you do? Do you a.) blink three times b.) say “ok, babe” and continue on with your night or c.) immediately stop, drop, roll and then call your travel agent and get a partial refund (unless you got trip insurance), and then give the ‘it’s you not me”, speech.
I would definitely have to choose a combination – A +C!
Love for travel is an essential trait I look for when dating. Traveling is not a hobby or an expensive pastime, it’s a way of living. Traveling has consumed me and I love it, and if he travels, I’ll love him for it. Dating an individual that loves to travel gives you a glimpse of who they are and I always encourage anyone to date someone who loves to travel.
Here’s why:
- They are rich: No, no, no. Not rich in material goods, rich in experiences. I know it’s cliche, but the saying is true, ‘travel is the only thing that you can buy that makes you rich’. Traveling allows you to experience different cultures, different ways of living; it allows you to experience the world in a far greater way than you can ever imagine. Travel allows you to be more open and tolerant of differences.
- They are cultured: There’s nothing wrong with dating an uncultured man, but there’s nothing sexier than a man who has a broad perspective, because of being abroad. When you travel, you are less ignorant, less discriminative, less predjudice. You see the world differently and your way of doing, thinking and believing changes.
- They appreciate life: When you begin to travel, you realize just how small you are and just how much space you occupy in the world. (Not a lot!) Travel makes you appreciate your place in life. It reminds you that life goes on, and it reminds you to live in the moment.
- They know a good time: Entertain me. I want a man that takes me on elephant rides in the jungle, has dinner with me on the 40th floor while overlooking the city and gets lost with me because we are only fluent in the english language. When you are open to travel, you open yourself up to new experiences.
If I can’t travel with you, I can’t live with you, and if I can’t live with you, what’s the point?
Travel Tip: If you happen to find yourself with a man/woman that loves to travel, do so as quick as possible in the relationship. Take a 7 day vacation! Traveling with a significant other is a special test. If you can past the test, you’re good!
