Sun, sand, sea and swimming pigs!
While many islands around the world can boast of having the 3’s not many can lay claim to the world famous Swimming Pigs. The wild pigs of Big Major’s Cay in The Exumas are one of the key attractions in The Bahamas, and it’s no wonder why. They don’t fly, they swim!
Legend has it that the Swimming Pigs were dropped off on the island by sailors as a food source in case of war back in the day. War never came, therefore the pigs got to stay on the island and live rent free. While I’ve heard variations of the story, this one’s by far my fav. The pigs live a sweet life. They lounge around the island all day and wade out to meet visitors who bring them snacks for selfies.
It’s a must-do experience for any pig lover, or travel enthusiast looking to tick something unique and interesting off of their bucket-list.
If you’re looking to experience this off-the-beaten path adventure, but don’t know where to begin, drop me a line and I will recommend the very best excursions and tour companies.
