Lets face it, working a 9-5 is extremely taxing. It is stressful, exhausting and affects your physical and emotional well-being. Sitting in the front of a computer has caused me to have constant back problems, and I even now have wear cat eyed glasses. Have you ever met anyone in a good mood on a Monday? Certainly not I! Being a workaholic is commendable, getting that raise is awesome, but sacrificing your health is a major no, no!
This is where that two week vacation comes in handy! ‘Oh, but I’ll have so much work to do when I get back.” I’ve heard that excuse. ‘Oh, I can’t afford it.” Bye, Felicia! Everyone needs a break. While travel may seem luxurious and exotic, and expensive, it’s not and it’s just what the doctor ordered.
Travel does a body well. The benefits of travel are endless but here are ‘4 Ways Travel is Good For You.’
- It changes your mood – Ever seen a colleague after they came back of vacation? Bubbly, happy and ready to take on any work related challenge. Sometimes you hate them for being so positive and wish they’d return from whence they came! That’s your cue to use those vacation days.
- Destress – Travel allows you to take your mind off of the stresses of life. Worried about being short on numbers at work? An inbox full of emails? Your maniacal boss barking at you? Sickness? Your kids and spouses/relationship stressing you out? Take a break! Travel allows you to relax your body, mind and soul. It allows you to reevaluate and refocus.
- Travel Keeps You Healthy – Sitting at a desk all day can have detrimental effects on your body. When you are on vacation you are inclined to be more mobile. As a traveller I walk A LOT! It’s all I do. It’s the best way to explore and discover unknown destinations. Aside from that, long walks on the beach, swimming, hiking, paddle boarding and biking are all forms of physical activity that you can engage in while on vacation.
- Travel is Educational – Most of my entrepreneurial ventures came to me while I was on vacation. Travelling inspires and teaches me so much. It introduces you to new people, cultures, and different ways of thinking. Travel sparks creativity and introduces you to new ideas and trends; travel is the plug! Your next great adventure or problem solver at work may drop on your lap while you’re exploring the globe!
So, here’s what you do. Log off that computer, pull out that vacation leave form, and hand it in! Life is too short to sit at a desk and not experience life. It could be a trip out of town, out of the country, out of your city, out of your state. Just go somewhere. Vacation is calling! Answer it!
