As a child I dreamt of visiting places that I only saw on the television. I never thought this could become my reality. It has. Growing up in The Bahamas travel was always second nature. Our proximity to America (20 minutes) meant a quick trip to Miami, a summer vacation in Orlando or a thanksgiving in The Big Apple.
But America is a comfortable and safe destination; there is a bigger world out there just waiting to be explored. Fast forward to London 2012. How did I end up across the pond on my first solo journey? Well, it all started with making a conscious decision to just get up and go. It also started with a very random conversation with a guy friend of mine. We knew the Olympic Games were around the corner and we both knew it was someplace we needed to be. I wanted to experience the thrill of attending the historical event in London and he just wanted to have sex with random athletes in the Olympic Village. Needless to say, his dream didn’t come through, but mine did.
I purchased my roundtrip ticket to London and it was the best birthday present ever! Once I left London, the travel bug has kept biting. I have since gone on to visit Paris, Rome, Napoli, Venice, Capri and China just to name a few. This is just the beginning and I hope as I share my travels, it will inspire a few of you to go further and try something different. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
The first step is to create a bucket list of places you’d like to go. Where would you go tomorrow if you were given an all-expense paid trip? I recently created a short list of places I would like to visit in the near future (2015/2016). I chose destinations that were somewhat/kinda achievable and destinations I’ve always wanted to visit. While many may look at my list and become discouraged, please don’t be. I’m a strong believer of willing things into existence. One of my favorite quotes is from a powerful book called ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho. “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
So, here’s my bucket list:
“Five Places I’m Itching To Visit”
- New Orleans – The foodie & culture lover in me will have it no other way!
- Africa – What’s more fascinating than visiting the birthplace of humanity?
- Brazil – How else am I going to get an Instagram pic with Christ The Redeemer?
- Jamaica – I refuse to be the last one in my family to visit my mother’s hometown.
- Greece – Have you ever watched Sisterhood of The Traveling Pants?
What’s on your list? (Update: September 25th, 2016 – I have visited ALL of these places with the exception of Jamaica, I visit Africa in November 2016!)

Great article. New Orleans is on my list as well.
Great list! I’ll be scratching Brazil off my personal travel list this year, but the other ones you’ve listed are definitely on my must see list!
