At the top of the year, Amsterdam was not on my list of places to visit, truthfully, I wouldn’t have been mad if I never visited. For those of you that who know me, I’m not a partier or a drinker and that was the perception that I had of the city. I mean, this is the city where everything under the sun is legal. Amsterdam was a spontaneous decision, one minute you’re on a call with some friends and the next you’re booking tickets for a week in the Dutch capital.

We had no set plans, no itinerary, we were set to just go with the flow and flow we did!
The first impression that I had of the historical city was, omg, is this baby Venice? Could this city be any more picturesque, with its leaning ancient buildings and intricate canal system? Amsterdam is a stunner! Truth be told, I would choose Amsterdam over Venice any day. So, what did I do in Amsterdam for a week? Like I said, I had no plans. My days usually went a little something like this. Wake up at 11 p.m., head for breakfast, stroll the little cobbled streets and alleyways, window shop, meet up with friends, eat lunch, drink + people watch, walk for hours shooting the breeze, almost get run over by a bicycle, eat dinner, watch the sunset set around 10 p.m., late night drinks + laughs, sleep at 2-3 p.m. Rinse, repeat.
Amsterdam was a true vacation and a dream. We stayed at a super nice eco-hotel (maybe too eco for my likes :’), ate some really good Chinese & Portuguese food (sorry not a fan of Dutch food), and saw a different view of Amsterdam during a relaxing 2-hour canal cruise, oh yea, and caught some amazing sneaker sales. Can I go back already?!
I hate to say this but it felt good to not have to run around town getting content for the blog. When I travel, I sometimes can’t turn the content creator in me off, I’m so consumed with doing it all and capturing it all that I’m really exhausted and burnt out.
Amsterdam was all about me-time, hope you guys understand! I did NOT take a ton of blog-worthy photos, but the memories are sure to last a lifetime.
I know a lot of people have asked me for some recommendations on what to do, eat, and see in Amsterdam and I promise a travel guide is on the way! I promise.
Have any of you traveled to Amsterdam before? Did you love it?
LET’S KEEP IN TOUCH!
