It feels so good to be back in the Motherland. It’s amazing how time flies, it was just yesterday I was preparing to pop my Africa cherry and today I’m back for the third time. I am forever grateful to have the opportunity to partner with my Explore Africa Tour family, to highlight the history, rich culture and life-changing experiences here on the continent.
We are back once again navigating through Cape Town, the coastal sweetheart affectionately nicknamed The Mother City. We are set to spend a few days discovering the best the city has to offer from the infamous Stellenbosh vineyards, the historical Robben Island, the 7th wonder of the world Table Mountain, searching for lions, tigers and elephants and more before dashing across to another must-visit African country, Namibia!
I will confess, I’ve never given Africa the justice it deserves when it comes to documenting my experiences for you’ll and I’m truly disappointed. Truth be told, I’m always left overwhelmed, emotional and it’s so much to share, I truly don’t know where to begin! This year, I’ve decided to take a different approach because I want to inspire you all to make the journey, it’s a must. I will share my experiences daily on the blog in order not to overwhelm myself at the end of the trip. I hope it inspires at least one of you, to get up and out to see Africa for yourself!
So, let’s get into day 1!
DAY 1
- BOULDERS BEACH – One of the most popular places to visit in Cape Town is Boulders Beach near the little seaside village of Simon’s Town. Yes, there’s white sand, beautiful azure water but that’s not why over 60,000 plus tourists flock to this part of town every year. Boulders Beach is the home to local celebrities, a colony of Africa penguins, numbering in the thousands who have staked their claim to this side of town. The local celebrities can be found en masse sunbathing on the white sand beach, hiding from the waves which are softened by the massive granite boulders. The penguins are oh so cute, but please, be careful, don’t get too close because they do peck! One of the little things attacked our camera.
- CAPE POINT {Cape Of Good Hope} – History and a view like none other intersects at good ole’ Cape Point, located at the southwesternmost tip of the continent. The Cape’s history dates back to the 15th century when the Portuguese sailor Bartholomeu Dias became the first European to hit the southern tip of the continent. Because of the treacherous seas and unpredictable weather surrounding the Cape, it was nicknamed, Cape of Storms. A few years later another Portuguese sailer by the name of Vasco da Gama sailed down the Cape and up the coast of Africa ultimately signalling a new age of trade, between Europe with India. Its name was yet again changed to reflect this good fortune, Cape Of Good Hope. You can take the Flying Dutchman tram up, 238m above sea level, to be exact, the Old Lighthouse to take in the panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Watch out for the wild animals, there are aggressive baboons, we also spotted a few zebras!
I am so excited to share this year’s tour and to show you why I fall head over heels every single year with Africa. Continue to check in daily as I will sharing my day! If you have any questions about the tour or to find out more information on joining next year’s Zimbabwe experience, leave me a comment or visit Explore Africa Tour.
