I couldn’t go all the way to Jamaica and NOT ride a bobsled!
If you’ve ever watched the 1993 movie “Cool Runnings”, based on the true-life story of the first Jamaican bobsled team’s Winter Olympics then you’ll know why! If you’ve never watched it, do yourself a favour and check it out asap!
The Jamaican Bobsled experience is located 700 ft up the Jamaican mountain, Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios. In order to get to the ride, you’ll have to take the sky explorer chair lift through the rainforest but the views of the Jamaican seaside are undeniably spectacular. The ride takes about 15-20 minutes and I’m not sure if I would call this a mountain….I think we decided it’s more like a really high mound. *shrugs*
Before you get to the bobsled adventure, there is this really cool mini-museum that you can walk around and find more information on the famous 1988 bobsled team as well as other Jamaican national heroes.
Feel the rhythm, feel the rhyme, it’s bobsled time!
We were strapped into these almost perfect Olympic bobsled replicas. It’s tinier than I expected, so if you’re leggy, you may have some problems. The bobsleds are controllable, you have the option of going as fast as you want, or as slow as you want. I opted not to be at the controls because I KNOW, we were going to go at an almost snail-like pace if I had.
I’m a roller-coaster lover, BUT, let me tell you…I screamed at the TOP of my lungs for the entire ride. IT was faster than I expected and had lots of turns, but it was so much fun and of course, the views were gorgeous. My only complaint was the length of the ride. It was too short, I needed at least another 2 minutes.
I feel like I could try out for the Olympics now! ???? Just j/k! But, I highly recommend it. If you’re afraid of heights or have back problems, you may want to skip it though.
