“I don’t have enough money!”
That may be the most frequent line used as an excuse not to travel, and they may be right. Before I began traveling, I never had enough money to travel. But I never had enough money to travel because travel was never my main priority. I spent money on shoes, bags, clothing, dinner, facials, hair appointments and the rest was sitting on my savings account for me to admire like a first place trophy in a race I never ran.
But, that has changed. I have visited nine countries in three continents, and by the end of the year, hopefully two more countries in two more continents. I still don’t have “enough” money to travel but I made travel a priority. When you begin to make things a priority, in any area of life, you have enough time, enough money, just enough of anything. Before you use the excuse, “I don’t have enough money,” ask yourself, “Is travel a priority.” Personally, I think we should all aspire to travel to at least one place we have never visited before every year or other year or every five years. (Whatever fits within your budget.)
Everything I do is centred around saving for my travels. Cutting out happy hours, not eating a $15 lunch. Not purchasing a Kylie Jenner lip kit. Not going to a Beyonce concert. When I go out socially, it’s usually always a treat, or free. I don’t spend my money on things that are not priorities.
I recently travelled to Greece (Athens, Santorini, & Mykonos) on around $2,000 inclusive of flight, transportation, food, and souvenirs. I could’ve spent less had I stayed in an Airbnb, or had I ate on a budget, but food is a non-negotiable for me! I love to eat well! In the past, I would have never imagined that $2,000 could take me around the world. It just seemed so unattainable; it seemed like I just didn’t have enough money to travel there. But, I did.
The truth of it all is, if you make travel a priority, you will always have enough money to travel!
