Heartwarming Christmas classics are just one of the things I love about the holidays and let’s be real, there’s no shortage of good festive flicks. If you need to a little help getting into the spirit of the season, here are 11 staple Christmas movies. From comedy to drama and animation, there’s something for everyone!
It’s A Wonderful Life – A quintessential Christmas classic movie, about the suicidal George Bailey who is saved by his guardian angel Clarence, reminds us that even in despair and life’s uncertainties, we are truly loved and that it’s truly a wonderful life.
The Christmas Story – “You’ll shoot your eye out!” Thank you, TBS for making me fall in love with Ralphie Parker and family in this classic 1980’s Christmas movie.
Elf – Buddy spends his entire life at the North Pole as an elf helper but never truly fit, he, therefore, embarks on a journey to New York City in search of his family in this classic Christmas comedy.
Miracle On 34th Street – A department store Santa by the name of Kris Kringle tries to convince everyone that he’s the real deal only to be threatened with being locked up in an insane asylum.
The Polar Express – Based on the children’s book of the same name, The Polar Express starring Tom Hanks is about a little boy named Billy and his memorable and adventurous journey to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus.
The Santa Clause – Tom Hanks accidentally kills Santa on Christmas Eve and inherits not only his suit but the responsibilities of Santa Clause in this must-watch.
Home Alone – How does one leave an entire human being home during the holidays? Just watch this quintessential holiday classic starring Macaulay Culkin and you’ll see how! An all-time favourite of mine!
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Gather the family and allow Charlie Brown and friends to remind you of the true meaning of the season.
Jack Frost – Michael Keaton stars in this heartwarming story of a father who returns to life as a snowman to spend time with his son.
Rudolph The Red Nosed-Reindeer – An oldie, but goodie, this stop-motion movie is as classic as it gets telling the story of Santa’s most popular reindeer! Airing exclusively on CBS, every year since 1964, Rudolph is the longest continuously running Christmas TV special in history!
This Christmas – Despite layers of family drama, The Whitfield’s remind us that family is the only thing that truly matters in this heartwarming Christmas favourite.
