Last week, I had one of those weeks where all I wanted to do was crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head. It was one of those “I’m a failure, nothing is going right, what am I doing with my life, am I fulfilling my purpose”, moments, which, truth be told, happens every quarter. After a long discussion with my person, I decided that someone may be going through this same situation and may need someone to identify with, or need advice on how to crawl out of that dark hole.
Hi, it’s me, Sherice, and guess what, I haven’t figured my life out and that’s ok. Nice to meet you too.
When most people see me, they see a well-spoken (on most days lol), intelligent (sometimes) woman who has a successful life and career. When I see me, I see a woman that hasn’t achieved enough, doesn’t work hard enough, isn’t focused enough, and a woman still on a hunt for her purpose. I will not deny that I am a trailblazer who has accomplished a lot, but it’s not enough for ME. My goal isn’t to live a mediocre life. Yes, I am terribly hard on myself because I know I am capable of doing much more.
But herein lies my problem. What is more? I don’t know, I can’t figure it out and I know I’m not alone.
There are millions of people on earth who do not know what their true purpose in life is. Finding out your purpose is one of the hardest things in the world to do. We were all made to fulfil a specific plan. Purpose is the why, purpose gives life meaning, it helps us to focus and it gives us direction. If you’re currently lost, confused, or unhappy, it’s probably because you haven’t found out your purpose.
So how do we find our purpose? *looks around* I don’t have the answer, if I did, I wouldn’t be writing this right now. But, I can point you in a direction that may help you.
I’m currently reading the book, “Unleash Your Purpose” formerly “In Pursuit of Purpose” by Dr. Myles Munroe which is a guide to finding out your purpose as intended by God. This book gets you to actively think about personal fulfilment and how to achieve that. This book has truly been an eye-opener for me because it has helped me to ask myself the tough questions, and it has helped me to understand that the only way for me to be personally fulfilled is to find out why I was created. It’s a great start if you feel lost or confused or just need a good book to read.
The next step is to simply ask your creator. If you believe in God like I do, talk to him. Ask HIM. Only he knows why you were created and we were all created with intent. Even further to simply talking to God, you should listen to HIM. God speaks to us in many ways, we just don’t realize it. New opportunities, repetitive conversations with different people, or simply a strong urge in you sub-conscience can all be signs of God talking to us.
Lastly, I just want to say there’s no rulebook to life. If there was, we’d have it all figured out. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not accomplishing goals on their timeline. Life happens as it is supposed to happen. Stop letting people’s manufactured lives on social media pressure you, yes, we all fall victim to this, even me.
I know this is an unusual post for me, but this is my life. I’m not a life expert or a purpose expert I just want people to know that they’re not alone in common life struggles. So if you’ve found this helpful, let me know and if you’d like me to share more of my crazy life, let me know!
