In the past few years, I’ve been disappointed in my lack of discipline to finish books. There are so many distractions, and truth be told if the wind blows my attention shifts. This is something that I’ve been actively working on, and day by day, I think I’m getting a little better. In the past two months, I’ve been able to pick up my reading pace, due to the lack of stable electricity in The Bahamas.
It’s so strange admitting that but it’s a real problem we’ve been dealing with for the past few months on the island of Nassau. Blackouts can last anywhere from two to four hours, some even longer. Some have called it an inconvenience, and it is, but I have now chosen to use it as a blessing in disguise. {I still dread it though!}
Four hours is a long time, and I have chosen to use the time to be productive instead of complaining by focusing on my reading! This weekend, I decided to revisit an old favorite for much-needed inspiration, The Alchemist by Paula Coelho. I’m sure you’ve heard of the book, but if you’ve not, simply put, it’s the story of a shepherd boy in search of his Personal Legend, or what we know as our life’s purpose or our dream.
I enjoyed The Alchemist, even more, the second time around and this time I decided to pull some of my favorite quotes to share.
“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
“We have to be prepared for change.”
“It’s the possibility of having a dream come through that makes life exciting.”
“It’s the simple things in life that are the most ordinary.”
“People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”
“When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day the sun rises.”
“Every blessing ignored becomes a curse.”
“Every search begins with beginners’ luck, and every search ends with the victors being severely tested.”
“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”
“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”
If you’ve never read The Alchemist, I promise, you will enjoy it and be inspired!
