Travelling is perhaps one of my favourite past times. There’s nothing better than the thrill of exploring new places, experiencing new things and meeting new people. But, truth be told, travelling can have negative effects on our bodies. From dehydrated skin, acne breakouts, irregular sleep cycle and poor eating habits, travel takes its toll.
Due to this, the most essential thing to practice post travel is detoxing. Detoxing allows me the opportunity to get my mind and body back on track and jump head first back into my daily routine.
Here’s my post travel detox routine, my tips and tricks to resetting post travel.
AT HOME SPA SESSION
Travel takes a major toll on my skin, therefore one of the first things that I do when I get back from a trip is treat myself to an at home facial. I ensure that I use a strong mask to deep clean my pores and detox my skin from pollutants. A few of my favourite masks to detox are Tea Tree Skin Clearing Clay Mask from the Body Shop and Therapeutic Sulfur Mask Acne Treatment Mask from Peter Thomas Roth.
The ensure that my mask fully works, I like to add a little bit of steam while masking. If you have an at-home steamer, you’re good to go, if not, simply hop into a hot shower and let the steam from the shower work.
After masking, I use an exfoliating product, usually my bio-peel lemon gauze pads from Neogen to get rid of dead skin cells and unplug clogged poors. Lastly, I end my mini facial session with my hydrating Rose Deep Hydration Moisturizer from Fresh.
HIT THE SACK
A big part of being able to jump right back into my normal routine is ensuring that I am fully over the jet lag and fully rested. When travelling for work or vacation, sleep takes a back seat. My sleep cycle is usually totally trashed due to jet lag and it takes about two full days to get back to normal.
I try not to schedule any commitments right after returning home because I have a date with my sheets and pillows. Due to the change in timezones, I almost always have to force myself to sleep on the timezone I’m in, not the one I just got back from. Quite challenging I must say, but necesssary. After a nice hot shower, I turn off all distractions, cell phone, computer and television, light a few candles and pass out!
DETOX
For the most part, I tend to eat very healthy, therefore when I travel there are no rules. I eat everything in sight, there’s absolutely nothing that’s off limits. It’s a different ball game when I return home. I say, see ya! to all of the cheese, meat, fries and gelato that I’ve been eating and immediately jump back into my routine of greens, whole grains, fruits, veggies and ensure that I’m back to consuming eight glasses of water a day.
But, before jumping back into my healthy eating habits, I incorporate an apple cider vinegar detox to the mix to help remove toxins out of my system. I mix 1 tablespoon of ACV into a cup of water, a squeeze of lime and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of honey. I try to drink this concoction about once a day for about two days.
I hope you enjoyed my post travel detox tips! Would love to hear some of the things you do after travelling! Drop them in the comments below.

Wow i do exactly the same. I just got back from a busy yet lots of food travelling for 9 days. And i have not had time to do these all, but today i will. What i do also is, resting my face from any makeup for 2 days, and moisturize it with olive oil. All that touching my skin should be natural. And also, light yoga and body massage. I get my body massaged at least one day before travelling so my body is fit enough to enjoy the trip.
Yes! I def agree with the no makeup tip! I usually don’t wear too much makeup but after a trip I need a break! Also, that massage tip sounds like it will def be a new fav of mine. Never even thought of it.
