Valentine’s Day is a few days away and I’m just getting around to thinking about! I don’t need a designated day to show love, I ensure that I show love to my significant other, family and girlfriends as much as I can. Life is short, don’t wait on one day.
This year, my boyfriend and I are not “celebrating” but instead opting for a simpler route. We planned to just pop by a local restaurant and get drinks and food. That was the plan, but he decided to surprise me with a portrait from a local Bahamian artist, Jamaal Rolle. Jamaal is a super talented celebrity artist who has drawn some of the biggest names in the world, to receive my own portrait is a gift I will always cherish.
While the idea was to not purchase any gifts for Valentine’s Day, I am head over heels in love with the thought put into this surprise gift. I have been looking for decor for my office wall for quite some time and this is the perfect addition.
While I don’t particularly love the idea of exchanging gifts on Valentine’s Day, I do love when thought is put into it. If you need a few thoughtful ideas for gift-giving, here are some below!
- Spa Night: Have a pamper party for two! Grab some personalized robes, essential oils, press play on some Sade Adu and spend your evening working the kinks out of bae back with an at-home massage. If you’re going all in, add in a manicure and a pedicure to make it special.
- Dinner With A Twist: If you’re not the chef in charge at home, use this opportunity to surprise your significant other with their favourite meal. Even if you’re not the most amazing cook, I assure you, you’ll earn brownie points just for trying! Set the table, pop a bottle of vintage wine and Netflix an old classic and enjoy a night of love. If you’re afraid you’ll burn down the kitchen, hire a personal chef for the heavy lifting.
- Wine & Sunsets: Depending on the weather, chase the sunset and have a bottle of wine and cheesy Valentine’s Day chocolate. Chat about all of the things you love about each other and plans for the future!
How will you be spending your Valentine’s Day?
