Self-care has become such a buzz word recently, the cool girl or guy on the block. Everyone’s practicing self-care, and that’s amazing, taking time out for yourself and focusing on your needs is extremely important and necessary.
But, what does self-care look like? It looks like whatever you want it to. There’s no right or wrong way to take care of your needs. Self-care isn’t some formula (for me it’s not) and looks different for every individual.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite methods of self-care that may or may not work for you. My goal is to simply inspire and encourage you to take time out to focus on you and your overall well being.
Here are 4 ways I actively practice self-care.
- Unplug from Digital: Every couple of weeks, I try to take a break from social media. It’s usually not long because it’s at the core of my work, but there are times when it’s absolutely essential. We find ourselves comparing our lives, getting caught up in negative commentary and just spending too much time on these various platforms. A detox from the anxiety and stresses of social media is necessary. The less time you spend on Facebook, Instagram, the more time you have to water other areas of your life.
- Read A Good Book: I’ve challenged myself to read more books this year and it’s been an eye-opening experience. As an entrepreneur, reading should be a mandatory weekly or daily exercise. For me, cracking opening a good book and flipping through pages is a stress reliever, I find great comfort and joy in the slow-paced journey of reading.
- Exercise: If you told me exercising three times a week would be a part of my self-care routine, I would tell you nope! I really did not like working out, I just didn’t, but it’s now an essential part of my weekly routine. Working out three times a week has helped to boost my energy levels, my self-esteem and of course, I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been in! As we get older, we have to pay attention to our health and take care of the body that we’ve been given.
- Take A Break: Life is stressful, being an entrepreneur is stressful. When I’m feeling overwhelmed and frustrated, I take a break. I shut down my computer, put my cell phone on mute, hop in my car and drive to the beach. Listening to the waves crash and smelling the salt from the sea is therapeutic and resets my mind. If you need a break, take it, before you’re forced to.
