I’m a sucker for new hair care products, so naturally when our favourite girlfriend Tracee Ellis Ross announced that she was releasing Pattern Beauty, a hair care line for curly, coily and tight texured curls, I was over the moon!
I have loved the legend that is Diana Ross, Tracee’s mother for….all my life! 🙂 As a natural, through and through, there were not many women of color rocking their natural hair in the entertainment industry when I was a child. Diana Ross was a light, an unapologetic natural hair care warrior. Tracee followed suit and carried the torch of loving her natural curls. These were my icons, therefore I was esctatic to support Tracee in her new endeavour.
When the line dropped September 9th, I bought every single product offered. I purchased a deluxe bundle that came with a hydrating shampoo, heavy conditioner, leave-in conditioner, jojoba oil, a hair clip, a shower brush and a microfiber towel all for a whooping $124 PLUS shipping and international tax into The Bahamas. These products are not your usual drug store products, and therefore do cost a pretty penny!
So, how do these products measure up?! Let’s get into the good stuff.
The Pattern Beauty Hydrating Shampoo left my hair clean but without feeling stripped. It lathers really well if you’re someone who needs some sudge bubbles in your life. The smell is light and pleasant, it boasts of notes of Jasmine, Bergamot and Sweet Sandalwood. The 9.8 oz shampoo retails on its own for $20.00.
Pattern Beauty does not yet provide styling products yet, so I “styled” with a cocktail of Leave-In Conditioner + Jojoba Oil. I did not have high hopes for a bomb wash and go, I’m being honest. But, I was pleasantly suprised at the amount of defintion and shine that these two products left me with. The smell of both of these products together is nothing short of heavenly, especially the jojoba oil that features lavender oil. The smell is not potent at all, but heavenly. The Leave-In Conditioner is not thick, but more a medium consistency, so it soaks right into the hair, leaving no residue. Just soft, defined coils. I loved this duo.
While wash day was amazing, the real test stands in Day 2 & 3, and how the products will hold up over the course of my week. I may end up adding a light gel to my mix depending on how well it lasts.
